Nancy White

June 8, 1938 — September 17, 2022

Nancy White’s life story
Nancy Louise Byrd was born June 8, 1938, in Los Angeles, CA to Vivian and Art Byrd. With older
brother Jimmie Byrd, the family moved to Lake Forest Park, north of Seattle in 1943 and later
moved to Bothell, WA and attended elementary, junior high, and high school, graduating in 1956.
She joined the Community of Christ church in April 1955. After graduating, she then went to the
church’s college, Graceland University, in Lamoni IA, for one year.
Nancy met Jim White in May, 1956 on a blind date setup by Jim’s brother Don White (Capitol
Manor Resident). On New Year’s Eve 1956, she accepted his marriage proposal. They were
married August 18, 1957. They resided in Seattle where Jim worked at Boeing. Nancy chose to be
a full-time homemaker and mom. Their family increased when daughter Dianne was born in July
1958. In late 1959, they moved to Redmond, WA. Son Scott joined the family in February 1962.
In August 1966, they moved to Woodinville, WA on a small farm residing there until 1990. They
then moved to Bow, WA where they volunteered as Community of Christ campground managers
through 1994. Nancy found the campground gave her many opportunities to express her faith in
action that extended through the rest of her life. They returned to the farm until selling it in
1997. They decided to full time RV for a few months (which turned out to be several years) until
they found a permanent home. In 2005, they found their home at Capital Manor.
Nancy was involved in Capital Manor life: visiting residents, serving ice cream to Manor Care
residents on Saturdays, plus other various activities. She was somewhat energy limited as she
had Multiple Sclerosis, yet it didn’t stop her from doing what she liked best: visiting people and
making hand embroidered cards. Her positive attitude, quiet manner, and love for all was felt by
anyone she encountered.
Her real pride and joy was her family: daughter Dianne, son Scott, their spouses, grandchildren
and great-grandchildren. Dianne Webberley (Brett) is a home-based business owner, living in
Camas WA, and has two children. Paige MacDonald (David) is an International High School science
teacher residing in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. with their son Calvin (2 ½ yrs). Austin Webberley (Sydney
Summerville) is a School District IT Specialist living in the Vancouver, WA area. Scott White
(Laurie) is an IT Director living in Tigard, OR and has two children. Derrick White (Cloey) is a
Secondary School music teacher in Manchester, IA, and they are expecting their first child in
March 2023. Nicholas White (Natalie) is a financial advisor for Edward Jones, living in Hillsboro,
OR.
We would all agree that Nancy was a very dedicated and ruthless game player and lover of ice
cream, both of which her children and grandchildren inherited. If you were to ask Nancy what she
liked best in her life, she would say God is first, then comes family and friends. Nancy was at
peace when she knew her earthly end was coming, which was September 17, 2022.
Nancy has several nieces and nephews, and was preceded in death by her brother Jimmie Byrd.
Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 October 29, 2022 in the auditorium at the Capital Manor Retirement Community in Salem, Oregon.
