Oscar Edward Phillips

January 12, 1927 — January 24, 2014

Our dear Papa Oscar died on January 24, 2014, being reunited in heaven with his wife, Shirley and his son, Eddie. He was 87 years old.

Oscar was born in Halstead, Kansas but later moved to Oregon, where he graduated from Gervais High School in 1945 as a four-sport letterman. He soon met Shirley Church and the two were married in 1949, while Oscar was working as a butcher at local markets. He then after worked for more than twenty years at the State of Oregon Correctional Facility as a vocational instructor in meat cutting.

Oscar's sparkly eyes especially twinkled when he was fishing on the Oregon Coast, playing the harmonica, gardening or watching or playing sports with his sons and grandchildren. He is dearly loved and sorely missed already.

He is survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Sue Church of Keizer, sons and daughters, Arnold and Laura Phillips of Canby and Jeff and Manya Phillips of Keizer, grandchildren Eddie and Aaron Phillips of Portland, Sarah and Chris Matheny of Keizer, and Matt and Nick Phillips of Keizer, and his three great-granddaughters, Grace, Olivia & Hannah.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Restlawn Funeral Home and Memory Gardens in Salem.
