Clara M. (Pat) Sullivan Antuar
March 9, 1923 - September 21, 2014
Pat passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 21, 2014 at the age of 91. She was born in Norwood, Missouri on March 9, 1923 to Roy and Clara Anderson and was the third of four children.
She was named Clara at birth but after her Grandpa took one look at her he proclaimed she is not a Clara! She is a Patsy! She grew up on a farm lovingly taking care of her animals with a special fondness for horses and chickens. She graduated from Norwood High School at the age of 16 at the top of her class and gave the commencement speech. She said in her speech that the amount of perseverance that we have will determine how much success our future lives will be. She applied that philosophy throughout her whole life. After graduation, she became an elementary school teacher.
At the age of 26, she moved to Portland, Oregon and lived with her sister Velma while she worked in the Portland shipyards as a welder on the warships in WWII. She was extremely proud of the role she played in helping our country during the war!
She married Floyd (Bob) Sullivan on March 21, 1950 and had always dreamed of having a large family. She proceeded to have 5 children in 7 years! She wanted a good life for her children and worked hard to support her family. She was a remarkable saleslady and could sell anything but her specialty was selling women's clothing. She had the incredible ability to walk into a room and talk to anyone making them feel comfortable and happy like she had known them all her life!
In 1968 she divorced and later married Howard Neilson in 1974. He introduced her to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of which she became a dedicated member for the rest of her life. Howard preceded her in death and she later married Jack (Colin) Antuar on March 18, 1988. They became temple ordinance workers for several years at the Portland LDS Temple.
She loved nature, especially trees and would marvel at the beauty of a single fallen leaf. She was very artistic and was an excellent writer and speaker. Even in her later years, she had perfect handwriting. She created beautiful cross-stitch pieces and enjoyed word search puzzles. Pat was truly an amazing woman but with all her talents the greatest gift she gave to all was her unconditional love and support. Upon seeing friends, family or complete strangers she would just light up and tell you how beautiful you were. Indeed Pat was beautiful inside and out and will be deeply missed.
Pat is survived by her children Ann Sullivan, Sally Roberton and husband Dale, Tim Sullivan, Jan Sullivan, Jill Bynum and husband Jeff. She also has 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
Her husband Colin, parents, sisters Lois and Velma and brother Daniel preceded her in death.
Special thanks to the Bynum family for their loving care of Mom for the last 5 years.
The Memorial Service will be at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Woodburn on Tuesday September 30th. Viewing is at 10am and the service at 11am. Entombment and dedication will be at the Restlawn Memory Gardens in Salem at 2:45pm.
