atricia “Pat” Hammingh
1940 – 2018
Pat Hammingh (78) also lovingly known as Mom and Gramey, was called to her heavenly home on Sunday, December 30, 2018. She died in her home due to complications of COPD.
Pat was born in Stedum, Groningen, Netherlands on February 15, 1940. She was the 2nd of six children born to Henry and Jeannette Hammingh. She immigrated with her family to Bellflower, CA in the mid 1950’s, where she met and married Peter DeHaan Sr. in February of 1960. Throughout their marriage they lived in Ontario, CA, Bakersfield, CA, and Weed, CA before settling on a dairy outside Salem, OR in 1972. Together they had 5 children. She enjoyed raising her family on the farm and looked forward to her daily activity of feeding the newborn calves. Following her divorce, she moved to Salem where she enjoyed gardening, bowling, volunteering at the Salem Hospital, and spending time with her grandkids and family. Pat was a longtime member of the Independent Reform Church of Salem. Her most recent place of residence was Madrona Hills, a retirement community in Salem, where she was loved by both staff and residents and was teasingly referred to as the “Social Director” because she was always willing to teach new card games and play lots of games with other residents.
Pat is proceeded in death by her father and mother, her sisters Wilma Sytsma and Ann Vanderwal, brothers John Hammingh and Chris Hammingh.
She is survived by son, Gary (Larene) DeHaan, daughter Jeanette (Curtis) Stairs, son Henry (Cory) DeHaan, daughter Frankie (Jason) Cook, son Peter (Jennifer) DeHaan, sister Grace Gerritsen, 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Pat’s service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Restlawn Memory Gardens in Salem, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Salem Right to Life.
