Phyllis Glocke (Reinen)
April 30, 1939 - April 30, 2013

Phyllis Glocke passed away April 30, 2013, on her 74th birthday, at home surrounded by her family and many wonderful friends, after a hard fought battle against Cicero (her name for her cancer).

Born in Clearlake, Minnesota to farmers Karl and Esther Glocke, the family moved to Hillsboro, Oregon where she graduated from high school. She settled in Salem in the early sixties after marrying Ranney Reinen. After her children graduated from high school and moved out, Phyllis pursued a life-long dream and joined the Peace Corps in Pohnpei Micronesia where she taught high school English. After her 2 year Peace Corp stint was completed, Phyllis continued to teach in Pohnpei for 8 additional years. Always a spiritual woman, she discovered the Bah¡' Faith in Micronesia, and found comfort in it's teachings for the rest of her life.

Phyllis was a generous, quick witted, and fun loving woman. She was a loving mother, and grandmother. She was always drawn to art and loved to dance. She loved to swim and play water volleyball. Late in life, Phyllis discovered that she had a green thumb and shared her apartment with a gigantic African violet passed down from her parents.

Phyllis is survived by her children: Neal (Jennifer) - Salem, Julie - Salem, Andy (Sharon) - Alb, NM. Also survived by Regina Wilson (Jeff Nixa) -South Bend, IN. Phyllis gave Regina up for adoption 53 years ago and was recently reunited. Grandchildren: Carissa Reinen, Andrew Reinen, Meleeka Reinen, Kara Pileggi, Daniel Sweistris, Andree Wilson-Nixa and Aimee Wilson-Nixa. Newborn great granddaughter Alivia. Nieces Shelley Pivers (Matt) and Shannon Mullins. Phyllis will also be sorely missed by her seven devoted grand-dogs.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents Karl and Esther Glocke, and her only sister, Sharon Brown.

While caring for Phyllis in these past weeks of her life, her children and grandchildren were warmly supported by Phyllis' dear friends who seemed to come out of the woodwork to offer help and encouragement through this difficult time.

Phyllis' children also want to thank Odyssey Hospice for their kindness and commitment and her Bah¡' community for their loving and continual support.

In lieu of flowers, Phyllis would love if you "pay it forward" and do something nice for someone. Bah¡'s who would like to donate may make a contribution to any Bah¡' fund in Phyllis' honor.

Services will be held at the Bah¡' Center on the of corner of State Street and Cottage Street on Saturday, May 4 2013 at 1:00 PM.
