Richard Dean Ewoldt, 74, was born in Denison, Iowa on October 14,1947 to Deloris (Kroeger) and Iven Ewoldt of Ricketts, Iowa.
He graduated in 1966 from Schleswig High School in Iowa.
He worked on local farms and then as a truck driver for the Dr. Pepper company of Denison. In 1967, he met the love of his life, Yvonne Iwen, who worked as a waitress in her parents’ cafe in Battle Creek. They were married February 4, 1968 at Battle Creek’s Presbyterian Church. Their marriage was blessed with three children: Tami, Kathy, and Chad. They made their home in Ricketts and then in Schleswig. Richard served on the volunteer fire departments for both towns. He was an avid bowler for many years with the high score of 290 of which he was very proud. He loved to hunt and fish as well as ride dirt bikes and snowmobiles. He was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church of Ricketts, St. John Lutheran Church of Schleswig, and St. John’s Lutheran Church of McMinnville.
In 1984, Richard and Yvonne moved their family to McMinnville, Oregon. He then became a long haul truck driver. After moving to Salem, he drove locally for Western Farm Service/ Crop Production for fifteen years. He retired in 2015. Throughout the years, he found great joy with many family outings, including camping and fishing trips. He loved visiting the Oregon Coast with his wife and family. He also loved a good challenge with his grandkids and their board games. One of his greatest joys in life was his Pomeranian, Diesel.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Deloris (Kroeger) McDole and Iven Ewoldt. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Yvonne; their three children: Tami Fisher (Robert) of Salem, Oregon, Kathy Lomica (Darin) of Roseburg, Oregon, Chad Ewoldt (Debbie) of Dayton, Oregon and their seven grandchildren: Daniel Fisher(Deserae), Benjamin Fisher, Kaitlyn Fisher(Amanda), Jessica Fisher, Kourtney Dahl (Spencer), Karey Mesa (Bennett), and Emily Ewoldt. Other survivors include: his twin brother Roger Ewoldt (Rosie) of Wisconsin, sister Linda Ewoldt of Iowa, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
