Richard Hayward

Richard Allan Hayward passed away on February 8th , 2023 at age 69 in Salem, Oregon.
Rich was born on February 26th , 1953 to parents Joseph and Hellen Hayward in Portland,
Oregon. He grew up with his younger brother Christopher in Milwaukie and Beaverton. Rich
went to Beaverton High School where he excelled at football and wrestling, lettering in both.
Rich went to college at Oregon State University in Corvallis and then went to work with his dad
at the Joe Hayward Ford car dealership in Dallas, Oregon. Alongside his dad, brother, and mom,
Richard worked hard to grow the new car dealership into a successful and ever-growing family
business.
He married Colleen Overbey in 1975, and they had two children, Nicholas and Lindsay.
Over the years, you could usually find Rich at the car dealership, often accompanied by his
beloved dogs, Jake, Benny, and Hoss. Rich had a big heart and was a friend to many in the
community.
Rich enjoyed reading, boating, motorcycles, and, of course, fast cars. In recent years, Rich
enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids.
Richard is survived by his brother Christopher (Jeanette) Hayward, of Warrenton, son Nicholas
Hayward, of Corvallis, daughter Lindsay (Derek) Wielkopolski of West Linn, and grandkids Olivia,
Isla, and Theo Wielkopolski.
A celebration of life for Richard will be held in the spring.
