Richard "Dick" Kent Sellers, Sr., passed away on Oct. 15, 2010, in Salem, Oregon, after courageously and graciously battling cancer. Dick was born on Feb. 16, 1926, in Richfield, Utah, where he lived until the age of 15 when he moved to southern California. In 1944 he joined the Army Air Corp. Beginning in December of 1946, Dick served a 3-year mission in Brazil for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Upon his return, he married his sweetheart, UlaRae Risser, in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple on Nov. 19, 1949. They resided in Logan, Utah, for three years while Dick finished his degree at Utah State University, then lived in southern California until they moved their young family to Salem, Oregon, in 1959. He retired from his career with Farmers Insurance group after 35 years. Dick loved working on his "Ranch" where he maintained 17 acres, remodeling and adding to his home and yard many times. Dick rendered valiant service to his beloved church and his Heavenly Father throughout his life. Dick was a friendly, kind man, loving everyone, and he is loved by many whose lives he has touched. Dick lost his wife, UlaRae, in June of 2008 after nearly 59 years of marriage. He is survived by his sons, Kent (Rolayne) Sellers of Centennial, Colorado, Dan (Marian) Sellers of Bountiful, Utah, Robert Sellers of California, Kory (Diane) Sellers of England; daughters, Shawnee (Dave) Young of Salem, Melanie (Jim) Reynolds of Salem, and Wendy (late Steve) Lakey of Salem; 30 grandchildren, and 40 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sons, Kerry Sellers, Jeremy Sellers; and by daughter, Marsha. Dick and his wife also fostered many newborn babies over the years. He loved his many nephews and nieces dearly and will be missed by them. Viewings will be held from 6 - 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, at Restlawn Gardens Funeral Home, 201 Oak Grove Rd NW, and at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at the LDS Stake Center with funeral service to follow at 11 a.m., 4550 Lone Oak Rd.
