Mr. Rodney J. Gould, 83, of Salem went to meet the Lord peacefully with his family at his bedside.
He was born in Hoopeston, Illinois on May 1, 1932 to Dr. Rodney C. Gould and Alice Lamport, the oldest of three children.
Rod grew up in Hoopeston, Il and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1945 then moved to Oregon. He went on to attend Whitworth College, Western Oregon University, University of Washington, and Syracuse University.
Rod served in the U.S Army during the Korean Crisis. He then became a Teacher/Librarian primarily with the Oregon Youth Authority. He retired in 2004. Rod met and married the love of his life, Tamara, on June 20th, 1959 in North Dakota and together they raised five children then adopted three children from Vietnam. Rod and Tami loved to travel together and often took their grandchildren as well.
Everyone who knows Rod knew him as a quiet, gentle, compassionate, loving man. Rod loved his family, camping, travel, fishing and photography. He also enjoy his visits with his brother David.
Survivors include his wife Tamara; children, Peter (Leslie) Gould of Portland; Matt Gould of Salem, Erin (Lisa) Gould of Salem; Elizabeth (Duane) Larson of Happy Valley; Thad (Rochelle) Gould of Salem; Abby (Henry) Crawford of Salem; Tyler Gould; Tanner Gould both of Salem and 18 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and younger sister.
A celebration of life will be held Friday, November 20 at 11 a.m at West Salem Baptist Church. A military service will held at the Willamette National Cemetery.
