Ruth Marie Carroll, 94, was born October 1, 1927 in Oregon City, Oregon, the youngest of 6 children. She died peacefully on Wednesday November 24th 2021 in Salem, Oregon.
Ruth’s parents were John C. Heuvel and May Alma Heuvel . She had 3 deceased brothers, John, Henry and Franci Heuvel and 2 deceased sister’s Clara Cupit and Lily Leichner.
She was married to Donald (Sr) following WWII. Ruth’s greatest pleasure was being a homemaker when raising her sons. Camping to fish and hunt were their favorite vacations. Donald Sr and Ruth purchased a property in Lapine, Oregon in the early 70’s and built a house for their retirement and called it “The Cabin”. Ruth enjoyed spending time at the Cabin.
An auto accident in 1982 took Donald Sr’s life and left her with severely limited vison. Afterwards she and her son Don Jr sold their homes and lived in a newly built home with an attached mother-in-law suite for nearly 30 years.
She was a long-time member of the South Salem Church of Christ and had many Christian friends there. She was lovingly known as the “card lady” for making sure members received cards for health and special occasions.
After Donald’ Sr’s untimely passing Ruth persevered by traveling internationally and to Hawaii with her older sister and 2 sons.
Ruth is survived by her 2 sons, Donald Jr (Donna) of Salem, Oregon and Neil (Rogene) Carroll of Keizer, Oregon, 4 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 4 step-great grandchildren.
