Ruth "Elaine" Hulst, 80, of Woodburn passed on August 15, 2016. She was born in Madras, Oregon on February 14, 1936 to Ruth and Kenneth Blackwell, the oldest of three children.
In her early years, Elaine lived on a farm where she milked a cow, tended rabbits and walked more than a mile, through sagebrush, to school. She had fond memories of spending time with her grandpa and grandma Andrus, on their farm in Madras, while her mother, Ruth, was working at the post office.
Elaine moved to Salem with her family in 1945. When she attended school, she enjoyed that her mother was also her teacher. She attended Salem Academy for Junior and Senior High School. During high school, she met her loving husband of 58+ years, Warren Hulst, in the youth group at the Free Methodist church. After Elaine attended Seattle Pacific College, her and Warren were married in 1956.
At first Warren and Elaine lived in Portland, where Kathy and Linda were born. Then they moved to Salem, where Doug and Deborah were born. With unconditional love and immense care, together they raised their four children, whom they raised with christian values and taught about the love of God through Jesus. Elaine's dream was to create a loving, caring life for her family, which she fulfilled every day.
Elaine worked as office manager at Del Edwards real estate for more than 23 years. After Elaine and Warren retired, they moved to Florence in 2003, where they enjoyed their hobbies together. Elaine and Warren enjoyed the beauty of the coast and being a part of the Nazarene church and their many friendships they had there.
Warren passed on April 25, 2014. After this, Elaine resided at Cascade Park Retirement Community in Woodburn.
