SALEM -Ruth Ann Westover-Aydelott was born on October 22, 1937 in Farmington, Missouri. After graduating from Eagle Point High School, Ruth went on to study teaching at Southern Oregon University graduating in 1959. She taught grade school in Grants Pass and Medford. She met her husband Al Aydelott in church in Grants Pass, and married him in 1964. They established their home in Salem where Ruth and her family have lived ever since.
In 1969 their daughter Janae was born , and son Mark arrived in 1970. Ruth continued her teaching career at Washington and Highland elementary schools in Salem, retiring after more than 30 years in the classroom.
She was a faithful member of Salem Evangelical Church, and participated in the Wednesday night meal program as well as was a greeter, and counted the offerings. Ever the teacher, she also helped the pre-school director organize supplies for the classroom.
Her family and friends will never forget Ruth's laughing, jokes and humming. You knew Ruth was happy if she was telling a funny story or humming as she walked. Her family remembers her laughing on her last day and until her last moments when she slipped from this earth to be home with her Lord.
She is survived by daughter Janae A. Aydelott and son and daughter-in-law Mark J. and Julie Aydelott and granddaughter's Amanda and Melody. She had one sister, Jane Gratsinger of Eagle Point, Oregon, Nephew Scott and wife Becky Gratsinger, niece Connie and husband Cary Lowe and their children Bridger, Brenden and Braxton.
She was preceded in death by husband Al Aydelott in 1990, both parents Jeff and Viola Westover and brother Jimmy Lee Westover.
Services will be on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Salem Evangelical Church 455 Locust Street N.E. Salem, Or. 97301. Visitation will be from Noon until 4 p.m. on Friday, March 16th at Restlawn Funeral Home, Salem, Or.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Salem Evangelical Church (Wednesday night kitchen fund).
