June 11, 1938 - August 23, 2015
Salem - Valdean "Val" Ruth Wiens passed away Sunday at her home in Salem at the age of 77 after a courageous battle with cancer. Valdean was a cheerful, friendly, classy lady who loved all, and was loved by all who knew her. She was a homemaker by choice and calling, a fantastic cook, hairdresser extraordinaire, grandmother, mother, and wife to her beloved husband, Vic. She will be deeply missed by everyone whose life she touched.
Valdean was born on June 11, 1938 to Abraham and Helen Friesen in Dallas, Oregon, where she was also raised. On September 12, 1956 she was married to Victor D. Wiens by Vic's father in Dallas, and together they raised three children.
Her relationship with Christ was her passion, and her family was her love. Valdean's favorite thing was being a homemaker, and her cooking skills were renowned. She was also well-known for her fabulous hairdressing abilities, as she worked as a hairdresser for area funeral homes for over 50 years. She played piano by ear, and loved her baby grand piano she got for Christmas at age 12. She and her husband were long-term members of Salem First Baptist Church.
Valdean is preceded in death by her daughter, Vicki L. Wall. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, a son and daughter, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many, many extended family members and friends.
A Celebration of Valdean's life will take place on Tuesday, September 1, 11 am at Salem First Baptist Church. Arrangements under the direction of Restlawn Funeral Home. Photos, memories and condolences at RestlawnFH.com.
