Virginia Rose Lammers was born April 18, 1915 in Chicago, Illinois to Earl and Mildred Clymer. "Jean" married Clinton Lammers April 17, 1937 in Chicago. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; husband, Clinton G. Lammers; son Kenton Lammers; and grandson Timothy Lammers. She is survived by sister, Lavergne Biles; son and daughter, Dean and Teresa Lammers; grandchildren, Kevin and Jennifer Lammers; Tauna and Samuel Fry; great grandchildren, Kaysa and Brynley Lammers and Devon and Ethan Fry.
Jean and Clint moved to Oregon in 1945 where she did clerical/transcription work for William Stocey, CPA 1945-1946; General Adjustment Bureau 1953-1954; Oregon Legislative Assembly 1957-1959; and Legislative Counsel Committee 1959-1975.
In approximately 1966 Jean and Clint helped start Canyonview Bible Camp by donating money, and many hours of physical labor. During this time they became grandparents to Kevin and Timothy and "Grandma Jean" became the camp babysitter, cook, and cleaner upper for Josh and Matt so Dale and Ruby Price could work at getting the camp going. She loved spending time with the children and they loved her. In fact, she became "Grandma Jean" to all of the Campbell girls and most of the children at Salem Bible Church.
In 1979 Jean inherited a daughter-in-law Teresa Lammers when she married Dean. In 1982 baby Tauna joined the family and Jean had her first granddaughter. It took her only a short time to get used to having a granddaughter instead of boys and she loved it.
**When I joined the family she was involved in church activities at Salem Bible, Canyonview Bible Camp, and Get Together Club (a group of ladies from the community that met once a month). She was a very social person and she loved to travel every chance she got. The family traveled to the Washington DC, and Jean and Clint went to Germany to visit their son Kent who was stationed there in the Service. She also traveled with other friends when she could. She also loved classical music and one of her dreams was to go to New York to hear the opera. That is exactly she did. She got on a plane, went to New York, stayed in a YWCA close to the theater and went to the opera.
After Clint passed away Jean's health declined. She lived with her sister Lavergne and her husband Dale for several years and traveled to Arizona with them until they were no longer able to make the trip.. She moved into a foster home in Lebanon for a while and then came to live with Dean and I. Before moving into our home her last trip was to Colorado with Dean, Tauna, and Ruby to the funeral of her oldest son Kent who was killed with his wife in a car accident while vacationing in Mexico. Grandma Jean lived at Tierra Rose Care Center for about 10 years. Our "Grandma Jean" will be missed, but we all have beautiful memories of how she and Clint touched our lives in so many ways.
***In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to Canyonview Bible Camp, Silverton, Oregon, to help a child be able to attend camp. Thank you.***
