On July 11, 2018, Walton (Wally) Edward Curtis went home to be with the Lord after a courageous fight with cancer. In addition to being a wonderful husband, father, and papa, Wally was a man of integrity and humility who loved God and his family above all. He will be greatly missed.
Wally was born in Tacoma, Washington to Viola and Everett Curtis, the fourth of six children. He grew up in Puyallup, Washington and graduated from Franklin Pierce High School in 1961. Wally moved to Oregon and attended Judson Baptist College in Portland and Oregon College of Education (Western Oregon University) in Monmouth, where he graduated with a master’s degree in counseling. Wally became a vocational rehabilitation counselor with the Oregon State Commission for the Blind, where he worked from 1973 to 2003.
While in college, Wally met Carolyn and they married in 1968. Together they had three children: Jennifer Hanson (Tim), Janelle Booth (Jon), and Mark Curtis (Joani). In addition to his primary role and joy of being a loving husband, father, and Papa to six grandchildren, Wally enjoyed hunting, fishing, and photography. He also loved to tease and tell stories. Following his retirement, Wally spent much of his time on two of the things he loved most…his grandchildren and photography. He was very generous with his gift to see and capture the extraordinary beauty of God’s world, especially birds, through the eye of his camera. Wally won awards for his photography and many of his pictures may be viewed at
